2008 GCER Events

The Global Conference on Educational Robotics (GCER) features a variety of sessions and activities for attendees to enjoy. Following is a description of the many opportunities that are available for registered participants.

Since there are no documentation or onsite presentation requirements for the International Tournament, we encourage students, teachers, mentors and other robotics professionals to focus their creative and writing efforts on submitting a paper or a showcase to be presented at the conference.

Breakout Sessions

The GCER features breakout sessions where students, teachers, mentors and robotics professionals share papers that they have written and submitted through our Call for Papers. You can read more about the Call for Papers here.

Autonomous Robot Showcase

A popular event at the GCER is the Autonomous Robot Showcase and Poster Session. Students, teachers, mentors and robotics professionals can showcase their original, autonomous robots and/or posters related to robotic topics. For more information about the Call for Robotics Showcase, click here.

Guest Speakers

The GCER always features an impressive line-up of guest speakers from such organizations as NASA, iRobot and SPAWAR. Attending a guest speaker session is a great opportunity for students to hear from professionals who are currently working in robotics and technology related fields.

Robot Achievement and Trivia Contest

The Robot Achievement Contest and the Robot Trivia Contest have become highly anticipated events each year at GCER. All registered attendees have the opportunity to “test” their knowledge of robotics and win prizes! The Robot Achievement and the Robot Trivia Contest are paper and pencil tests covering robotics related topics. The achievement contest covers technical and academic knowledge while the trivia contest tests knowledge of robots in pop culture such as movies and TV.

International Botball Tournament

Teams from around the world compete for the International Championship at the International Botball Tournament. The seeding and double elimination rounds are featured at the GCER and are free and open to the public. Any team that competes in a regional tournament regardless of how they finish is encouraged to participate in the International Botball Tournament.

Beyond Botball

Also featured at the GCER is Beyond Botball. Beyond Botball is a Botball-type game designed for anyone interested in robotics who is “beyond” Botball age. We will be featuring the seeding and double elimination rounds for that tournament at the GCER as well. Read more about Beyond Botball here.
